Today we shot in the Star and Independent Newspaper Building in Joburg, (standing in for Reuters News Agency.) I loved being in a working newspaper office, though it needed little dressing to make it look like it must have in the 1980’s. It felt as though time has stood still in the building, which made me want to take over a desk and reclaim my old life as a journalist in Africa. I spent eight years in and out of the Nation Newspaper in Kenya, and wrote hundreds of articles, including weekly restaurant reviews and cookery columns which earned me the epithet, “The Iron Stomach.” My family got hepatitis from my adventures in River Road…
