The Scarecrow

“In a dystopian fantasy world, all food production is controlled by fictional industrial giant Crow Foods. Scarecrows have been displaced from their traditional role of protecting food, and are now servants to the crows and their evil plans to dominate the food system. Dreaming of something better, a lone scarecrow sets out to provide an alternative to the unsustainable processed food from the factory.”

The Scarecrow is an animated short that thoughtfully illustrates the importance of sustainable food and the many problems we face with today’s factory farm system.  Haunting and thought provoking, this is not a commercial, but a real piece of art.  The video is complimented by Fiona Apple’s cover of Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, adding a truly beautiful and eerie touch to this magnificent piece.

Apple, a long time vegan and animal rights activist, will be offering her cover on iTunes, with proceeds benefiting the Chipotle Cultivate Foundation.  Chipotle hopes to go viral again next year with “four TV show-length Big-Food-busting dark comedies” online.

The video also has a companion video game (available on iTunes in the app store).
